Embassy of the Republic of Palau
Washington, D.C.
Memorial Day,
29 May 2006
Today, May 29, Memorial Day 2006, several families, and
their children, including Palau’s Ambassador to the United States of
America, visited the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. to remember
and honor the late Captain John Julliano Kintaro who was killed in action
on September 27, 1971 in the Vietnam War. The group laid flowers and
paused for a moment underneath the section of the wall where Captain
Kintaro’s name and the names of many other fallen soldiers are engraved.
Although this year marks the thirty fifth anniversary of
Captain Kintaro’s death, a visit to the Vietnam War Memorial and seeing
his name engraved on the Wall brings mixed emotions of sorrow, pride and
honor; sorrow because he left behind the family he loved, and pride and
honor because his ultimate sacrifice contributed to our freedom.
